Archetypal Images in Dreams of the Korean(¥±)

Abstract
41 dreams of a 51 years old highly intelligent Korean woman were presented in this-, article to demonstrate the archetypal patterns of the unconscious.
The analysand has been suffered for several years from intermittent physical discomfort, anxiety, helpessness and self depreciation in association with emotionally irritating events. Through 29 analytic sessions the symptoms became much alleviated and her ability of inter-personal contact has improved. She gained the introspecting power and her attitude toward the world and herself has favorably changed, so that the tentative termination of the analysis could be possible.
The archetypal images were frequently observed in the first half of the dream series and-distributed scattered in the remaining part of the dreams interwoven with many complex images of the personal unconscious.
Each archetypal dream was interpreted in Jungian way applying amplification method and thereafter the whole dream series were examined pursuing the changes and development of each themes.
Among many archetypal themes in the dreams the most important one seemed to be the theme of the development of maternal instinct and the actualization of feminine individuality in the unconscious. This process was conducted by an unknown woman in the dream who has helped the dream-ego in her difficult passage to her home and by her creative work with a lizard extracting the poison which then transformed into a strong never leaking jar.
Contrary to her western education and her professional concern with the western culture her dreams frequently showed the necessity to return to the traditional way of life and to accept the traditional Korean femininity.
